Due to the start of a new contract we have been asked to acquire a fantastic General Manager at the 3 star level for this property in Nigeria belonging to a outstanding hotel group with other properties in the 4-3 star standard. Although the Salary is advertised at $35K per year, we are looking at suitable candidates as close to that range.
As a GM, we seek someone highly visible especially since high profile owners require a constant management presence who can deliver top service, top standards and ensure attention to detail is met at all times,
We seek a tough GM who can translate these standards to the local staff so training and regular mentoring will be fundamental to the success of this role.
Our client 2 newly constructed 3-star hotels of 65-rooms & 58-rooms in the Cross River State , southern Nigeria to open in early 2008. We seek proven GMs or AGMs to efficiently manage these hotels according to the Operating Standards of this Hotel group and their qualities should be dynamic, self-motivated and trustworthy to anchor and drive excellence in the operations of the hotels.
The candidates, aged between 35-45 years, should:
Start date for one position 18 th May, so an immediate start for the right candidate
Have a grasp of operational dynamics and management of hotels,
Have at least 10 years working experience,
Have the personality and ambience for effective liaison and networking with the expected clientele base,
Demonstrate a thorough understanding of effective management of material and human resources for optimal results,
Be conversant with the fundamentals of strategy formulation and implementation, including the preparation of annual business plans or budgets.
Computer literacy is essential, while other relevant professional industry qualifications would be an advantage.
Most of all, we seek a manager who can keep pace with the ever changing customer needs and who can adapt the service and facilities accordingly.

The success of their expatriate General Managers in Nigeria depends on how well the right person will suite the Nigerian environment. The other qualities are:
Previous international experience - foreign work experience, preferably in a developing country, is fairly important as this should have given a candidate the ability to generate strategies for adaptation in new situations; Especially welcome would be Nigerian or African experience.
Tolerance for ambiguity - the ability to function in a situation with unclear rules and parameters, and where things do not necessarily make sense;
Low goal and task orientation - not being obsessed with quick results because this can sometimes lead to frustration;

The selection process should not only be about candidates' technical competence but should specifically hone in on the candidates' ability to adapt as this will be a key driver of their success in Nigeria
This property is located in remote locations and we would prefer single candidates.
